Effective date: May 2025 ยท Last updated: May 2025
Short version: Unicoder stores nothing on any server. The only data it saves is the custom aliases you create, and that data lives exclusively in your own Chrome sync storage โ controlled entirely by you.
What data we collect
We collect no personal data of any kind. Unicoder does not collect, transmit, or store any information on external servers.
What data the extension stores locally
Unicoder stores only one thing: your custom Unicode alias mappings (e.g. /u โ ๐). This data is stored using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API, which means:
It lives in your Google account's Chrome sync storage, not on our servers.
It syncs across your own Chrome devices, exactly like browser bookmarks.
You can delete it at any time by removing your custom aliases in the extension popup, or by uninstalling the extension.
Network requests
Unicoder makes zero network requests. It has no backend, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party integrations. It operates entirely within your browser.
Permissions
Unicoder requests the following Chrome permissions:
storage โ to save and sync your custom alias mappings.
host_permissions (<all_urls>) โ to run the autocomplete feature in text fields on any website you visit. No page content is read or transmitted anywhere.
Third parties
We do not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any data in the first place.
Children's privacy
Unicoder does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Given the nature of the extension, material changes are unlikely.
